The government has set a target to procure a total of 850,000 tonnes of paddy and rice from farmers during the current Aman season in the 2026-27 fiscal year.

Of the total target, the government will procure 300,000 tonnes of Aman paddy, 500,000 tonnes of parboiled rice and 50,000 tonnes of non-parboiled rice.

Food Minister Afroza Khanam disclosed the decision while briefing journalists after a meeting of the Food Planning and Monitoring Committee (FPMC) at the Secretariat on Sunday.

She said the government would procure Aman paddy at 35 taka per kilogram, parboiled rice at 49 taka per kg and non-parboiled rice at 48 taka per kg.

“The government is implementing various initiatives to ensure fair prices for farmers' produce and strengthen the country's food security. Alongside ensuring fair prices for farmers, strengthening government food grain reserves is also one of the key objectives of this procurement drive," Afroza Khanam said.

According to the decision, procurement of Aman paddy will begin on November 14 and continue until February 28, 2027.

The procurement of Aman rice will start on December 1 and also continue until February 28, 2027, she said.

The meeting also discussed measures to maintain stability in the country's food situation, ensure an uninterrupted supply of food grains to the market and effectively implement government food distribution programmes.
