Actress Mehazabien Chowdhury flagged concerns over the rampant sharing of AI-generated defamatory content after its creation, saying, “...when the same content is shared by hundreds or even thousands of people, the issue is no longer confined to the wrongdoing of a single individual.”
Mehazabien said the spread pointed to a much larger social problem. “This raises the question: where exactly have we, as a society, ended up?”
Her remarks came after Masranga Television’s Instagram account was hacked and used to share vulgar, AI-generated pornographic content involving the actress.
“Creating false and fabricated content about someone using AI and spreading it with the intention of humiliating them is not entertainment. It is a crime,” she wrote.
Mehazabien said the issue extended beyond the individual who creates such material, arguing that when hundreds or thousands of people share it, the act reflects a broader social problem.
She also questioned why people should need to imagine such abuse happening to their own family members before recognising its harm.
“Why should someone have to be a member of our family for us to respect them as a human being?” she asked.
Acknowledging that content creation has become a source of livelihood for many, the actress questioned the ethics of earning money by humiliating others.
“I understand that people struggle. For many, content creation has become a means of livelihood. I do not want to dismiss that reality. But the question is, when did humiliating and disrespecting another human being become a means of earning a living?” she wrote.
She added that the problem was no longer confined to any particular gender, as anyone could become involved in spreading harmful content or fall victim to it.
Mehazabien said she was particularly concerned about the people who willingly share and discuss such material, helping it reach thousands of others.
She urged people to consider whether they wanted to become complicit in wrongdoing by spreading such content.
