The Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) has warned that temporary squalls and thunderstorms may hit 16 regions of the country by noon on Wednesday, with wind speeds ranging between 45 and 60 km/h.

According to a weather bulletin issued for the country's inland river ports from 5:00am to 1:00pm, the affected areas include Rangpur, Dinajpur, Bogura, Pabna, Tangail, Mymensingh, Dhaka, Faridpur, Khulna, Barishal, Patuakhali, Noakhali, Cumilla, Chattogram, Cox’s Bazar and Sylhet.

The BMD said south or south-easterly winds could bring rain or thundershowers accompanied by gusty or squally weather in these regions.

River ports in the affected areas have been advised to display Local Cautionary Signal No. 1.

The weather office also forecast rain or thunderstorms in the capital. In its six-hour outlook issued at 7:00am for Dhaka and adjoining areas, the BMD said the sky may remain temporarily partly cloudy and that thunder showers or rain are likely during the day.

South or south-westerly winds are expected to blow at speeds of 10-15 km/h, while daytime temperatures are likely to remain nearly unchanged.

At 6:00am on Wednesday, Dhaka recorded a temperature of 28 degrees Celsius with relative humidity at 90 percent. The city's highest temperature on Tuesday was 34.2 degrees Celsius.
