India will resume issuing tourist visas to Bangladeshi citizens from the end of this month, nearly two years after suspending the category, the country’s newly-appointed High Commissioner to Bangladesh Dinesh Trivedi said on Thursday.
“I am very happy to announce that we are resuming our normal visa applications for tourist visas which can be submitted from June 28, 2026,” Trivedi said while speaking to journalists at the Indian Visa Application Center at the Jamuna Future Park.
India sharply curtailed visa services for Bangladeshis following the July 2024 uprising that toppled the Awami League government.
Relations between the two countries soured during the transition period of the interim government.
With tourist visas remaining suspended, only limited categories, including medical visas, continued to be processed.
Bangladesh also suspended all categories of visas to Indian nationals in December, following an attack on its Assistant High Commission in Agartala, the capital of India's northeastern state of Tripura.
The suspension was lifted in February.
After the BNP-led government headed by Prime Minister Tarique Rahman assumed office earlier this year, the two sides have taken steps to restore normal diplomatic engagement, including the gradual resumption of visa operations and renewed high-level contacts.
