Prime Minister Tarique Rahman on Friday morning held talks with Chinese President Xi Jinping at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing, in one of the most important engagements of his four-day official visit to China.

The meeting, which began at 10:40am local time (8:30am Bangladesh time), lasted for around half an hour, Prime Minister's Additional Press Secretary Atikur Rahman Rumon said.

A wide range of issues related to Bangladesh-China relations, including trade, investment, infrastructure, connectivity and other areas of mutual interest, were discussed at the meeting.

Officials said the meeting is expected to further deepen bilateral ties and open up new areas of cooperation between the two countries.

The meeting comes a day after Prime Minister Tarique Rahman held bilateral talks with Chinese Premier Li Qiang at the Great Hall of the People. The two sides discussed trade, investment and development cooperation and witnessed the signing of 13 Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs).

Earlier this morning, the Prime Minister met Zhao Leji, Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress.

He is also scheduled to visit the Museum of the Communist Party of China (CPC) before leaving Beijing in the afternoon.

Prime Minister Tarique Rahman is scheduled to depart for Dhaka at 5:00pm local time, wrapping up his four-day visit to China.

The China visit followed his two-day official visit to Malaysia, the first leg of his maiden overseas tour since assuming office as Prime Minister.
