Foreign Minister Dr Khalilur Rahman on Saturday said Bangladesh's relations with China elevated to the highest level of bilateral cooperation - Bangladesh-China community with a shared future.

“This is the highest step in terms of China's bilateral engagement," said the Foreign Minister while describing Prime Minister Tarique Rahman’s just-concluded visits to Malaysia and China.

He stressed that photos and videos show how his stay in Malaysia and China depicted the importance of Bangladesh, strengthening Dhaka's ties with Kuala Lumpur and Beijing.

Leaders of the two countries agreed to build a China-Bangladesh community with a shared future in the new era.

State Minister for Foreign Affairs Shama Obaed Islam, Prime Minister's Adviser on Foreign Affairs Humaiun Kobir, BIDA Executive Chairman Ashik Chowdhury, Foreign Secretary Asad Alam Siam, and senior officials at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs were present at the media briefing.

Adviser Humaiun Kobir said the two sides signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) (party-to-party level) to forge a formal partnership to strengthen cooperation at the political level.

The two sides - Bangladesh and China - agreed to deepen cooperation in areas such as integrated water resources management, water resources planning, hydrological forecasting, flood prevention and disaster reduction, river dredging, and related technology sharing.

Prime Minister Tarique Rahman returned home from Beijing on Friday wrapping up his first overseas trip to Malaysia and China.
