Ahsan Habib appointed acting NBR chairman

Ahsan Habib has been appointed acting chairman of the National Board of Revenue (NBR) and acting secretary of the Internal Resources Division (IRD), according to a gazette notification issued by the Ministry of Public Administration on Tuesday.

Habib, who had been serving as the NBR member for Tax Administration and Human Resource Management, will assume the dual responsibilities with immediate effect.

Earlier, he also served as the Director General of the Central Intelligence Cell (CIC). 

An officer of the 15th BCS (Taxation) cadre, Habib graduated first class first from the Department of Geology at the University of Dhaka. 

He also served as the commissioner of Tax Zone-15 

While serving as Director General of the CIC, he led several high-profile investigations into tax evasion and financial irregularities.

In a separate gazette notification, the ministry said incumbent NBR Chairman and IRD Secretary Abdur Rahman will go on post-retirement leave (PRL) from Wednesday.
