Bodies of 5 Sylhetis killed in Qatar road crash return home

The bodies of five Bangladeshi nationals who were killed in a road accident in Qatar arrived in the country on Tuesday. 

All of the deceased were from Kanaighat Upazila in Sylhet.

A Biman Bangladesh Airlines flight carrying the bodies landed at Osmani International Airport in Sylhet at around 7am.

The deceased were identified as Abdul Qadir of Gachbari village, Mustaq Ahmed Afnan and Jubayer Ahmed of Majhtaluk village, Jasim Uddin of Agataluq village, and Jibal Ahmed of Amrpur village.

Sylhet-5 MP Mufti Maulana Abul Hasan was present at the airport. After the completion of necessary formalities, the bodies were taken to their respective villages by ambulance.

Officials at the Expatriates' Welfare Desk at Osmani International Airport said the Bangladesh Wage Earners' Welfare Board would provide an initial financial grant of Tk35,000 to each bereaved family. An additional Tk300,000 will be provided later.

The five expatriate Bangladeshis were killed in a road accident in Qatar's Shahania area on the morning of 21 June.

The Bangladesh Embassy said the bodies were repatriated with funding from the Bangladesh Wage Earners' Welfare Board.
