Govt to import 75,000 tonnes of MOP fertiliser from Russia, Canada

The Cabinet Committee on Government Purchase (CCGP) on Wednesday approved two proposals to import a total of 75,000 tonnes of muriate of potash (MOP) fertiliser from Russia and Canada at a cost of Tk 351.26 crore.

The approval came at a meeting of the committee, with Finance Minister Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury in the chair.

The committee approved the import of 35,000 tonnes of MOP fertiliser from Russia under a government-to-government agreement between JSC Foreign Economic Corporation (Prodintorg) and the Bangladesh Agricultural Development Corporation (BADC).

The consignment will be procured at a cost of Tk163.92 crore, with the price fixed at US$380 per metric tonne.

Besides, it approved the import of 40,000 tonnes of MOP fertiliser from Canada under a state-level agreement between the Canadian Commercial Corporation (CCC) and BADC.

The purchase will cost Tk187.34 crore, with the price also set at $380 per metric tonne.

The committee awarded the contract to the Canadian Commercial Corporation.
