BMD warns of landslide risk in Chattogram division amid heavy rainfall alert

Staff Correspondent

The Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) has issued a warning over possible landslides in parts of Chattogram Division as active monsoon conditions are expected to bring heavy to very heavy rainfall over the next 48 hours.

According to a weather bulletin issued on Monday, from 2pm onward, Khulna, Barishal, Chattogram, and Sylhet divisions may experience heavy rainfall to very heavy rainfall during this period.

The department warned that continuous heavy rain may cause temporary waterlogging in several parts of Chattogram city.

In addition, hilly areas across Chattogram Division could face landslide risks due to excessive rainfall.

Meteorologist Dr Md Omar Faruk told Daily Waadaa that there is a risk of landslides in parts of Chattogram Division due to heavy rainfall, particularly in the three districts of the Chattogram Hill Tracts.

“There is a possibility of heavy rainfall continuing until July 10 or 11. After a brief pause of several days, rainfall is expected to resume, and we will provide further updates accordingly,” he said.

Authorities have urged residents, especially those living in hilly and vulnerable areas, to remain cautious and stay updated with official weather advisories.
