Three Rakhine women detained at Ghumdhum border, sent back to Myanmar

The Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) detained three Rakhine women from Myanmar while they were allegedly attempting to enter Bangladesh illegally through the Garjanbunia border in Ghumdhum Union of Naikhongchhari upazila in Bandarban.

After being questioned, they were sent back to Myanmar in the evening, the BGB said in a press release issued on Saturday morning.

The detainees were identified as Manushing Tangchanga, 62, Lucky Mong Tangchanga, 38, and Metu Mong Tangchanga, 12. They are residents of Hwangking village in the Balibazar area of Myanmar.

They were detained during an operation conducted until Friday afternoon by the Garjanbunia Border Outpost under the Cox's Bazar Battalion (34 BGB).

Naikhongchhari Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mozammel Haque said the BGB and police jointly detained eight Myanmar nationals during the operation.

Cases were filed against them on charges of illegal entry, and they were sent to the Bandarban district jail on Saturday.

Commanding Officer of the 34 BGB Lieutenant Colonel SM Khairul Alam said a total of 11 Myanmar nationals were detained in two separate operations.

Of them, eight were men and the remaining three were women. Cases were filed against the eight men, while the three women were sent back to Myanmar in the evening.
