One killed, 40 hurt as bus plunges into ditch in Manikganj

A man was killed and at least 40 others were injured in a road accident in the Boroangail Bus Stand area on the Dhaka-Aricha highway of the district today.

The deceased was Delowar Hossain, 50, of Fulhara village in Ghior upazila of the district.

Boroangail Highway Police Officer-in-Charge Harun-or-Rashid said the accident occurred when a passenger bus plunged into a roadside ditch, leaving Delowar dead on the spot and injuring at least 40 others.

Locals rescued the injured and sent them to Shibaloy Upazila Health Complex.

The body has been sent to Manikganj 240-bed General Hospital morgue for autopsy.

The bus driver and his helper fled the scene immediately after the accident. Police have launched a drive to trace and arrest them, the OC added.
