Man to die for killing teenage girl after rape in Magura

A court in Magura on Monday sentenced a man to death for raping and murdering a teenage girl in 2022.

Magura District and Sessions Judge Mizanur Rahman delivered the verdict.

The convict, Hasan Sheikh, 28, is the son of Fazlu Sheikh of Srikol village in Sreepur upazila.

According to the prosecution, Rajia Khatun, a Class VI student at a local school in Srikol village, went missing after leaving her home on 17 March 2022.

Her body was later recovered near a bamboo grove along the Kumar River the same day.

The victim's father, Mikij Sheikh, subsequently filed a case with Sreepur Police Station.

Police arrested Hasan Sheikh from the village on 19 March 2022.

After examining the case records and hearing testimony from 11 prosecution witnesses, the court found Hasan Sheikh guilty and sentenced him to death.
