The morning air at Milestone School and College’s Diabari campus was heavy with silence as teachers, staff and members of the institution gathered on Tuesday to remember those whose lives were cut short in last year’s devastating tragedy.

On the first anniversary of the incident, the institution held a special prayer and doa mahfil for the students, teachers, parents and employees who lost their lives.

Floral tributes were also placed in their memory, as colleagues paused to reflect on a tragedy that left an enduring scar on the school community.

Teachers from both the school and college sections, along with employees of the institution, attended the commemorative programme, standing together in a solemn show of respect for those they once greeted in classrooms, corridors and offices.

The memories of classmates, colleagues and loved ones remain woven into the daily life of the institution.

The Milestone tragedy shocked the nation and prompted widespread expressions of sympathy and calls for stronger measures to prevent similar disasters.

On July 21 last year, at least 36 people including 28 students were killed when an FT-7 BGI fighter jet crashed into Milestone School and College in Uttara.

On November 5, 2025, a probe body formed after the July jet crash submitted the report to former chief adviser of interim government Prof Yunus.
