The government has extended until 31 December the special facility allowing Bangladeshi citizens living abroad to obtain new passports or renew existing ones after correcting personal information.

The extension applies to expatriate Bangladeshis who have been residing overseas for more than six months, according to a notification issued by the Ministry of Home Affairs on Thursday.

The ministry said the six-month extension was granted in the public interest to ensure uninterrupted passport services for Bangladeshis living abroad.

Under the revised order, eligible expatriates may apply for the issuance or re-issuance of passports after correcting information such as their name, date of birth, parents' names or other personal details, where necessary.

The previous order, issued on 8 July 2025, remained valid until 30 June 2026. The latest decision extends the facility until 31 December 2026.

The order takes immediate effect, and the authorities concerned have been instructed to implement the decision.

The notification has been sent to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Expatriates' Welfare and Overseas Employment, the Department of Immigration and Passports, Bangladesh missions abroad and other relevant agencies.

The extension is expected to benefit many expatriate Bangladeshis who were unable to complete the passport information correction process within the previous deadline.

The ministry said the move would also make passport-related services more accessible for Bangladeshis living overseas and facilitate their international travel and other administrative procedures.
