Police have arrested two Awami League and Bangladesh Chhatra League activists during a special operation in Ukhiya, Cox's Bazar. The arrests were made in separate areas of the upazila late on Sunday night.

The detainees were identified as Milon Barua (42), general secretary of Ward No 8 of the Haldiapalong Union Awami League, and Abu Naser Mohammad Imran (24), a Chhatra League activist from Rajapalong Union.

Police said Milon Barua is a resident of West Barua Para (Rumkha) in Haldiapalong Union and the son of the late Rajendra Barua. Abu Naser Mohammad Imran is a resident of North Pukuria in Rajapalong Union and the son of Abul Ala.

According to Ukhiya Police Station, the two were shown arrested in Case No 53, filed on 26 July 2026. The case names 114 accused and also includes 50 to 60 unidentified suspects. After completing the necessary legal procedures, both were sent to the Cox's Bazar court.

The case names Ukhiya Upazila Awami League President and recently former Upazila Chairman Jahangir Kabir Chowdhury, Upazila Awami League General Secretary and Ratnapalong Union Parishad Chairman Nurul Huda, Jubo League General Secretary and Union Parishad member Sarwar Kamal Pasha, Professor Humayun Kabir Chowdhury, Azizur Rahman, Foyezul Islam, and others, bringing the total number of named accused to 114.

Police sources said a reunion programme organised by the Chhatra League was held in Ward No 8 of Palongkhali Union on 25 July, triggering local discussion and criticism. Police launched the special operation the following night.

Ukhiya Police Station Officer-in-Charge Atikur Rahman said the operation would continue to maintain law and order and to arrest the remaining suspects named in the case.
