Additional Inspector General of Police (IGP) Barrister Mohammad Mosharraf Hossain on Wednesday formally assumed charge as the chief of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of Bangladesh Police.

He took over the responsibility at the CID headquarters in Dhaka after being appointed to the post by the Public Security Division of the Ministry of Home Affairs through a notification issued on June 28.

Before joining the CID, Mosharraf was serving on deputation as a director at the National Security Intelligence (NSI), where he was promoted to the rank of Additional Inspector General of Police.

A 15th Bangladesh Civil Service (BCS) recruit, Mosharraf joined the Bangladesh Police as an Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) in 1995. During his nearly three-decade career, he has served in key positions at the CID, Bangladesh Police Academy, Dhaka and Chattogram Metropolitan Police, the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB), Police Headquarters, and as superintendent of police in Pirojpur and Chapainawabganj. He holds a master's degree in Economics from Islamic University, Kushtia, a Bar-at-Law from the City University of London, and has received professional training in policing, investigation and forensic science at home and abroad.
