Prime Minister Tarique Rahman on Saturday gifted a CNG auto-rickshaw and two pedal-powered rickshaws to three participants of the July Mass Uprising 2024 to help them earn a living.

He handed over the vehicles at a ceremony at his Tejgaon office and spoke to each recipient about their health, families and livelihoods.

Mohammad Aziz Sheikh, a second-year social work student at Mirpur Bangla College from Lohagara, Narail, received the CNG auto-rickshaw. He was shot during the July uprising in Mirpur-10 and sustained 36 bullet fragments. Sheikh supports his family and studies by driving a CNG. “You must continue your studies,” the Prime Minister told him.

Mohammad Gaffar of Kushtia received two pedal-powered rickshaws. During the uprising, he supplied water to protesters in Mohakhali and transported injured people to hospitals in his rickshaw. He said he would drive one of the new rickshaws in Dhaka and rent out the other.

Tarique also gifted two battery-powered auto-rickshaws to 65-year-old Asadul Haque Bishu of Gabtali, Bogura, who had been struggling due to a lack of employment.

The Prime Minister inspected the vehicles and gave the recipients instructions on safely transporting them to their destinations.

BNP lawmaker Advocate Shamsur Rahman Shimul Biswas, Prime Minister’s Press Secretary Abu Abdullah M Saleh Shibli and Additional Press Secretary Atikur Rahman Rumon were present.
