Six AL leaders, activists arrested in Gulshan over secret meeting

Police arrested six leaders and activists of the banned Awami League (AL) and its affiliated organisations on charges of holding a secret meeting in the capital's Gulshan area on Friday.

According to a Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) press release issued today, on information that a group of leaders and activists of the banned AL and its affiliated organisations had gathered at a restaurant at Police Plaza around 9:15 pm and were holding a secret meeting.

Later, a team of Gulshan Police Station conducted a raid at the restaurant and arrested them, the DMP release said.

The release identified those arrested as Md Mehedy Masud Chowdhury, 55, SM Rezwan Habib Alif, 33, Md Nannu Mia, 38, Md Aminur Rahman, 38, Sajal Ahmed, 29, and Md Ibrahim Hossain, 33.

Police are investigating their involvement in secret meetings and other activities, it said.

The DMP further said legal action was being taken against the six individuals.
