Prime Minister Tarique Rahman urged India to fast-track the extradition of ousted leader Sheikh Hasina and return suspects in the Sharif Osman Hadi killing during talks with Indian High Commissioner Dinesh Trivedi in Dhaka. Rahman stressed creating a conducive climate to deepen Bangladesh-India ties, as Trivedi shared his early experiences in the post. Senior Bangladeshi officials also attended.
Prime Minister Tarique Rahman on Monday urged India to expedite the extradition of ousted prime minister Sheikh Hasina and return the suspects wanted in the killing of Sharif Osman Hadi, as he raised the two issues during a meeting with Indian High Commissioner to Bangladesh Dinesh Trivedi, the Prime Minister’s Office said.
Trivedi paid a courtesy call on Tarique Rahman at the Prime Minister’s Office in the Cabinet Division of the Bangladesh Secretariat, where the two discussed key issues in Bangladesh-India bilateral relations.
“The Prime Minister emphasised the need to create a conducive environment to further advance bilateral relations between the two countries,” the statement said.
During the meeting, Trivedi shared his experience of serving in Dhaka over the past two months.
It was Trivedi’s first meeting with Prime Minister Tarique Rahman since he assumed office in June.
Foreign Minister Khalilur Rahman and Prime Minister’s Foreign Affairs Adviser Humayun Kabir were present at the meeting.
India appointed Trivedi, a former Indian railway and health minister and veteran politician from West Bengal, as its 16th high commissioner to Bangladesh in April, replacing Pranay Kumar Verma.
