The results of the Secondary School Certificate (SSC) and equivalent examinations were published on Monday, with the overall pass rate falling to 62.25 percent this year from 68.45 percent in 2025.
Education Minister Dr Ehsanul Haque Milon announced the results at a press briefing at the Secondary and Higher Education Department of the Ministry of Education around 10am.
A total of 116,676 students secured GPA-5 this year, down from 139,032 last year.
The Madrasa Education Board recorded a pass rate of 55.49 percent, while 6,716 students achieved GPA-5.
Female students performed better than male students in both pass rates and GPA-5 results. Of the 917,694 male examinees, 530,938 passed, resulting in a pass rate of 57.86 percent. Among 911,791 female examinees, 607,939 passed, with a pass rate of 66.68 percent.
Girls also accounted for more GPA-5 achievers, with 63,896 securing the highest grade compared with 52,780 boys.
The overall pass rate this year is 6.2 percentage points lower than last year.
A total of 312 educational institutions under the country’s 11 education boards recorded a zero pass rate this year, meaning none of their students passed the SSC and equivalent examinations.
Of these, 57 institutions are under the nine general education boards, 226 under the Madrasa Education Board and 29 under the Bangladesh Technical Education Board. Among overseas examination centres, one also recorded a zero pass rate.
The Dhaka Education Board recorded the highest pass rate among the general education boards at 71.63 percent, followed by Rajshahi at 63.67 percent, Cumilla at 65.42 percent, Jessore at 66.27 percent, Sylhet at 58.33 percent, Chattogram at 59.48 percent, Barishal at 60.35 percent, Dinajpur at 58.03 percent and Mymensingh at 57.39 percent.
The Madrasa Education Board recorded a pass rate of 55.49 percent, while the Bangladesh Technical Education Board posted a pass rate of 58.20 percent.
