The International Crimes Tribunal-1 has deferred by one day the recording of witness testimony in the case filed over allegations of enforced disappearance and torture at the Joint Interrogation Centre (JIC) against former prime minister Sheikh Hasina and 12 others.

Judge Md Mohitul Haque Enam Chowdhury of the tribunal’s single-member bench passed the order on Tuesday.

The next hearing is scheduled for Wednesday.

According to court sources, witness testimony in the case was scheduled to be recorded on Tuesday. However, the prosecution sought an adjournment as the scheduled witness was ill.

Prosecutor Shaikh Mahdi sought the adjournment, which the tribunal granted. 

Earlier, on July 22, the cross-examination of the sixth prosecution witness, Hefazat-e-Islam activist Tajul Islam Sumon, was completed. He gave his deposition before the tribunal on June 18.

In his deposition, Sumon alleged that he was detained in prison for nearly eight years in false cases and subjected to enforced disappearance and severe torture because of his involvement in Hefazat-e-Islam’s politics.

He sought exemplary punishment for Hasina and all those allegedly involved in the incident.

There are 13 accused in the case. Three are currently in custody, while the remaining 10 are absconding.

According to the case documents, Tribunal-1 took cognisance of the prosecution’s allegations against the accused on October 8, 2025.

The tribunal later framed formal charges against the accused on December 18, 2025, and ordered the trial to begin.
