Bomb explodes on court premises in Barishal

A bomb exploded inside the main entrance of the 10-storey Barishal Chief Judicial Magistrate Court building around 10:30am on Wednesday, sparking panic among judges, lawyers and court staff. Police and a bomb disposal unit rushed to the scene, collected samples from the device and tightened security, while CCTV footage is being reviewed to identify those responsible.

The explosion occurred around 10:30am inside the main entrance of the 10-storey court building, according to witnesses.

The blast caused people inside the court premises to panic and run for safety, they said.

Kamrul Islam, administrative officer of the Chief Judicial Magistrate Court, said senior police officials visited the scene following the incident.

“We are helping police identify those responsible for the explosion by providing CCTV footage,” he said.

Officer-in-Charge of Kotwali Model Police Station Al Mamun Islam said members of the bomb disposal unit are working at the scene.

Samples from the exploded device have been collected for examination, he said.

Additional police personnel have been deployed around the court premises, the OC said.
