Dhaka University’s Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Hall administration on Wednesday permanently expelled two students over allegations of “immoral activities and homosexuality” after an investigation committee found evidence supporting the allegations.

The decision was announced through two separate notices signed by the hall’s Provost, Prof Dr Md Akhtaruzzaman.

The expelled students are from the 2025-26 academic session – one from the Department of Islamic History and Culture and the other from the Department of Marketing.

According to the notices, the hall authorities have also cancelled their allotted seats.

The hall authorities said the action followed a written complaint submitted by Hall Students’ Union General Secretary (GS) Ahmed Al Sabah, who sought an impartial investigation into what he described as a “serious immoral relationship”. The complaint included several photographs and videos supporting the claims.

Following the complaint, the hall administration formed a three-member independent investigation committee on August 2.

Prof Sheikh Yusuf, a member of the investigation committee, confirmed the allegations.

“The video footage we obtained provided clear evidence, following which the committee recommended taking necessary action,” he said.

Meanwhile, students of Islamic History’s 20th batch issued a statement saying, “We strongly condemn any kind of sexual activity or other inappropriate behaviour in university halls, classrooms or other public institutional spaces.”

The students said they are boycotting Section B of their batch over the “proven inappropriate behaviour” at Mujib Hall.

Users on Facebook claimed that one of the expelled students is a ruling Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) student activist, citing his social media posts about senior BNP leaders and shares related to political activities.

He was also seen posting about celebrations following the BNP’s victory in the 13th Jatiya Sangsad election.

However, DU unit of Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD) denied the claim.
