Two women were arrested for trafficking yaba tablets concealed inside a packet of bread.

The Department of Narcotics Control (DNC) made the arrest on Thursday and recovered 2,000 yaba tablets during a raid conducted between 5pm and 5:45pm at the Pontoon-6 BIWTA Ghat in Notun Baharchhara of Cox’s Bazar

The arrestees are Rujina Begum, 35, of Fakirtola Bede Para in Chhatak upazila of Sunamganj, and Ranu Begum, 54, of Kalikapur area in Chauddagram upazila of Cumilla.

According to the Cox’s Bazar district office of the DNC, Rujina Begum and Ranu Begum were detained in a raid based on a tip-off. 

They were later searched. 

At the time, the bread packet with the tablets concealed was found inside a red shopping bag carried by Rujina Begum. 

Somen Mondal, deputy director of the DNC in Cox’s Bazar, said 10 blue-coloured packets wrapped in tape and tissue paper were recovered from inside the bread. 

Each packet contained 200 yaba tablets, totalling 2,000 tablets. 

A case has been filed against the two arrested women at Cox’s Bazar Sadar Police Station under Sections 36(1), Schedule 10(a)/41 of the Narcotics Control Act, 2018.
