3 muggers sentenced to death for killing AIUB student in Narayanganj

A Narayanganj court on Monday sentenced three muggers to death for killing Wazed Alam Shimanto, a student of American International University-Bangladesh (AIUB), in 2024.

Narayanganj District and Sessions’ Judge Abu Shamim Azad pronounced the verdict.

The condemned convicts are Anik, Akash Khan and Chandi Babu.

According to the prosecution, three muggers intercepted Shimanto, a 2nd year student of the AIUB Department of Computer Science, in front of Morgan Girls’ High School at Deubhog of Narayanganj city around 6:00am on December 12, 2024.

At one stage, the hoodlums stabbed Shimanto indiscriminately and left the place after snatching his bag and mobile phone set.

The victim was sent to Dhaka Medical College Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries two days later.

Shimanto’s father Hazi Alam filed a case at Sadar Police Station in this regard.

Police arrested the trio from different parts of the district following the incident. All of them gave confessional statements before the court under Section 164 of the Code of Criminal Procedure.
