The International Crimes Tribunal (ICT) on Tuesday issued arrest warrants against 34 people, including former Rajshahi City Corporation (RCC) mayor AHM Khairuzzaman Liton, in a case filed over alleged crimes against humanity committed during the July 2024 uprising.

A three-member ICT-2 bench, headed by Justice Nazrul Islam Chowdhury, issued the warrants after taking cognisance of the formal charges against the accused.

The tribunal fixed September 17 for the next hearing.

Four of the accused are currently in jail. They are former Rajshahi-3 MP Asaduzzaman Asad, Dablu Sarkar, Zahirul Islam Rubel and Mohaiminul Islam Manik.

The prosecution had earlier, on July 30, submitted formal charges against 38 people before ICT-2 in connection with the case.

According to the prosecution, Raihan Ali was shot dead in front of Lobongo Restaurant under Boalia Police Station in Rajshahi city on August 5, 2024, during the July uprising.

Another victim, Anjum Shakib, was also shot dead in front of Shah Makhdum College during the movement, while several others were injured in the incident.
