Swapan resigns as information minister, appointed PM’s political adviser

Information and Broadcasting Minister Zahir Uddin Swapan has resigned from his post, with the Cabinet Division issuing a gazette notification on Saturday confirming his resignation.

The notification, signed by Cabinet Secretary Nasimul Gani, said President had accepted Swapan’s resignation and that it would take immediate effect.

Following his resignation, Prime Minister Tarique Rahman appointed Swapan as his political adviser. He will retain the rank, salary, allowances and other benefits of a minister while serving as adviser.

Barrister Andaleeve Rahman Partho has been assigned responsibility for the Information and Broadcasting Ministry, according to a gazette notification issued on Friday night.
