The verdict in the crimes against humanity case against seven people, including Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader, over offences committed during the July mass uprising is expected to be delivered on any day next week.

Chief Prosecutor of the International Crimes Tribunal Md Aminul Islam said this in a press briefing at his office on Thursday.

The closing arguments and hearings in the case concluded on August 17. Following the completion of the proceedings, International Crimes Tribunal-2 kept the case pending for verdict.

The prosecution argued that the charges against the accused had been proven beyond reasonable doubt. It sought the maximum punishment for the accused as well as confiscation of their properties.

Prosecutor Mizanul Islam and Advocate Gazi MH Tamim represented the prosecution, while state-appointed defence lawyers Advocate M Hasan Imam and Advocate Israt Jahan represented the accused.

The other accused in the case are Awami League Joint General Secretary AFM Bahauddin Nasim; former State Minister for Information and Broadcasting Mohammad Ali Arafat; Jubo League President Sheikh Fazle Shams Parash; General Secretary Mainul Hossain Khan Nikhil; and banned Chhatra League President Saddam Hossain and General Secretary Sheikh Wali Asif Enan.
