Police have filed a case under the Anti-Terrorism Act against college student Sifat Abdullah in Gazipur, following his arrest over a Facebook video in which he criticised the BNP government and Prime Minister Tarique Rahman over soaring electricity bills.

Golam Rabbani, officer-in-charge (OC) of Gacha police station, said Sifat was sent to court after the case was filed.

“He was trying to organise a flash procession with the fascist forces,” he told Waadaa.

Earlier, the OC told the media that Sifat had been arrested on allegations of making derogatory remarks about the Prime Minister and the government.

Sifat, a student of Adamjee Cantonment College, was arrested from his home on Thursday night after a one-minute video of him went viral on social media.

In the video, Sifat showed his electricity bills and complained that he had been charged around 4,000 take and 5,000 take in the past two months. He also used abusive language while criticising the BNP government.
