Law will determine Hasina’s right to appeal if she returns: Law Minister

UNB

Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Md Asaduzzaman said it is not possible to say in advance whether former prime minister Sheikh Hasina will have the opportunity to appeal if she returns to Bangladesh.

“If she wants to appeal, the law will determine it then. Not before that,” he said while responding to questions from journalists at Secretariat on Wednesday.

An MoU signing ceremony was held between the Law and Justice Division and BRAC on implementing a project titled “Civil Registration and Vital Statistics: ICT Infrastructure Development for Marriage and Divorce Registration.”

Earlier, journalists also sought the minister’s comment on a report published by an Indian media outlet that India would not hand over Sheikh Hasina to Bangladesh.

The minister said the matter did not fall under the jurisdiction of the Law Ministry. “First, look at extradition and see which ministries are involved with the extradition treaty, and then ask the question,” he said.
