The Indian Border Security Force (BSF) has returned the body of a Bangladeshi man who died after being shot by its personnel near the Chanderhat border in Pirganj, Thakurgaon.

The body of Asadul Haque, 38, was handed over to Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) around 10pm Sunday in an area under the Jinajpur border outpost in Pirganj.

Asadul, son of Abdul Wazed of Dakshin Indrail village, was among three Bangladeshis shot near border pillar No. 333 early Saturday.

According to local residents and BGB sources, a patrol from the BSF's No. 63 Chakshibananda camp in India's Uttar Dinajpur opened fire on the three as they allegedly attempted to cross into India.

BSF personnel later took the wounded men to Kaliaganj State General Hospital, where Asadul died while undergoing treatment.

The other two were identified as Mostakim, son of Ahed Ali of Uttar Indrail village, and Sri Uda, son of Narayan.

Both were admitted to the same hospital with gunshot wounds.

Indian police later arrested the two on allegations of illegal entry and sent them to jail.
