A Dhaka court on Tuesday convicted and sentenced Suporna Sur Chowdhury, wife of former deputy governor of Bangladesh Bank SK Sur Chowdhury, to two years imprisonment and fined her one lakh taka in a graft case filed by Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).

Judge Md Robiul Islam of Dhaka Special Judge Court-10 pronounced the judgment this morning.

According to the case documents, an order was issued requiring Suporna to submit a wealth statement providing detailed information on all movable and immovable assets or properties, liabilities, sources of income and details of acquisition of assets or properties acquired in her own name or benami, as well as in the names of persons dependent on her and her husband SK Sur, over allegations that she owned assets beyond her known sources of income.

She received the wealth statement form along with the order to submit the statement under her own signature on October 27, 2024. However, she did not submit the wealth statement within 21 working days of receiving the order.

In this connection, ACC Deputy Director Nazmul Hossain, as the complainant, filed a case against her on December 23, 2024, under Section 26(2) of the Anti-Corruption Commission Act, 2004.

After completing the probe, the investigation officer of the case and ACC Assistant Director AM Taher submitted a charge sheet against her before the court on June 29, 2025.

On February 3 this year, the court framed charges against her and ordered the trial to begin. During the trial, five witnesses testified before the court.
