A Jubo Dal leader has been sued over the alleged rape of a woman in Narail’s Lohagara upazila, police said Wednesday.

The accused, Md Tarikul Islam, is president of the Jubo Dal unit in Kashipur Union. The woman filed the case with Lohagara Police Station on September 7, according to Officer-in-Charge Abdur Rahman.

According to the case statement, the woman’s husband lives in Dhaka for work. She alleged that Tarikul had repeatedly made sexual advances and obscene gestures toward her and became angry after she rejected him and told her husband about his conduct.

She also alleged that Tarikul had threatened to rape her, record the assault and circulate the video online.

The complaint said the woman stepped outside her home around 2:30 am on August 31 after hearing unusual noises from her ducks and chickens. As she was returning inside after checking on the poultry, Tarikul allegedly grabbed her from behind.

Tarikul then allegedly raped her with the assistance of two or three unidentified people, according to the case statement.

The woman’s daughter woke after hearing sounds of a struggle and her mother’s groans and began screaming, prompting the accused to flee, the complaint said.

Tarikul could not immediately be reached for comment despite repeated calls to his mobile phone.

Lohagara Upazila Jubo Dal President Khan Mahmud Alam said the party would investigate the allegation and take organisational action accordingly.

OC Abdur Rahman said police were investigating the case and would take legal action based on their findings.
