Prime Minister's Political Adviser Zahir Uddin Swapon today paid a courtesy visit to the family of late Barishal journalist Pulak Chatterjee.

While talking to journalists after visiting Pulak Chatterjee’s at Uttar Mallik Road in the city this afternoon, Swapon said, “I have had a relationship and acquaintance with Pulak for a long time. I am deeply saddened and have still not been able to overcome the grief.”

“As I have been serving as the information minister, I had to look into the journalism profession more closely. We will implement a wage board ensuring the interests of both the journalists’ side and the owners’ side,” he said.

“I had spoken with the owners, as well as with editors and journalists. Then, I had made some progress in this regard.”

Mentioning that those involved in journalism want salary security and dignity, he said, “Our Prime Minister Tarique Rahman is very conscious about the media. We will all look after Pulak’s family. Pulak’s death has shown the professional challenges.”

Swapon spoke with Pulak Chatterjee’s wife Priyanka Chatterjee and daughter Prakriti Chatterjee and inquired about their overall well-being.

Former member secretary of Barishal Metropolitan unit of BNP Mir Zahidul Kabir, former joint secretary Anwarul Haque Tarin, Barishal Press Club President Amirul Islam Khasru and General Secretary SM Zakir Hossain and former president of Barishal Reporters Unity Sushanta Ghosh, among others, were present.
