The President on Monday appointed Additional Judge of the High Court Division Justice Debasish Roy Chowdhury as a permanent judge of the same division.

A gazette notification issued by the Law and Justice Division said the appointment was made by the President in consultation with the Chief Justice under Article 95 of the Constitution.

The appointment will take effect from the date of his oath-taking.

Born on March 1, 1981, Justice Chowdhury obtained an LLB (Hons) from the University of Wolverhampton, United Kingdom, a postgraduate diploma from the College of Law of England and Wales, United Kingdom, and certificates in law from Holborn College, United Kingdom.

He was enrolled as an advocate of the district court in 2005, the High Court Division in 2007 and the Appellate Division in 2018.

Justice Chowdhury was appointed an additional judge of the High Court Division of the Supreme Court on October 8, 2024.
