Chittagong Hill Tracts (CHT) Affairs Minister Sa Ching Prue has called for unity beyond political and community differences to ensure peace, harmony and sustainable development in the hilly region.

He made the call during separate exchange meetings on Thursday on the occasion of his first official visit to Naikhongchhari upazila in Bandarban.

During his daylong visit, the minister met representatives of the upazila administration, law enforcement agencies, religious communities, political leaders and local stakeholders.

Describing Naikhongchhari as geographically and strategically sensitive, Sa Ching Prue stressed stronger coordination among the administration, law enforcement agencies and local people to ensure public safety, prevent drug trafficking and smuggling, and develop sustainable infrastructure.

He said mutual respect, tolerance and social harmony are vital for lasting peace in the hill region. 

"The government's main goal is to bring the benefits of development to the doorstep of every citizen," he said, urging cooperation from all sections of society.

At a special law-and-order meeting chaired by Upazila Nirbahi Officer Mohammad Enamul Hasan, the minister directed authorities to adopt a zero-tolerance policy against smuggling, strengthen border security and modernise communication systems. 

Zone Commander of 11 BGB Naikhongchhari Battalion Lieutenant Colonel Faizul Karim and senior officials attended.

The minister also released fish fry into Kachari Pond on Upazila Parishad premises and urged authorities to boost fish production and support fish farmers.

He later met religious leaders and local political representatives, who raised issues related to communication, education, health, tourism and border security. 

The minister assured them of priority action.
