Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed said on Wednesday that an investigation is underway against a local member of parliament over the demolition of the Radda MCH-FP Centre, a maternal and child health centre, in Mirpur-1, Dhaka.

He said no one would be spared if their involvement in the incident was established.

The home minister made the remarks while speaking to reporters after a law-and-order meeting on Durga Puja at the home ministry conference room at the Secretariat.

Salahuddin said a police officer has been withdrawn over the incident, and departmental action is being taken against him.

“Those who were present there as perpetrators may have political identities. But that will not be taken into consideration. Those who were present at the scene have been arrested,” he said.

Earlier, late Thursday night, a masked group of around 250 people vandalised the 50-year-old healthcare centre in Mirpur-1 and looted medical equipment, medicines, official records and cash before illegally occupying the premises.

Following the incident, a case was filed with Shah Ali Police Station.
