Prime Minister Tarique Rahman left Dhaka for Feni on Thursday morning for a daylong visit that will include the inauguration of a major flood-control project, a rooftop solar initiative and social welfare programmes.
His motorcade left his Gulshan residence by road at around 8:40am, according to his schedule. It is Tarique’s first visit to Feni since taking office as prime minister.
His first major engagement is scheduled for 12:30pm at the Muhuri Bridge area in Parshuram, where he will inaugurate the first phase of the Muhuri-Kohua Flood Control, Drainage and Irrigation Rehabilitation Project.
The project, approved by ECNEC in June, is estimated to cost 1,542.16 crore taka. It includes re-excavation of rivers and water bodies, rehabilitation of flood-control embankments, riverbank protection and renovation of irrigation infrastructure.
Tarique is then scheduled to inaugurate a tree-planting programme at Begum Khaleda Zia Women’s College in Fulgazi at 1:30pm.
At 2pm, he will inaugurate the supply of electricity to the national grid from a rooftop solar installation at the Fulgazi Zila Parishad Dak Bungalow.
The prime minister will offer Zuhr prayers and have lunch at the Dak Bungalow.
At 3:30pm, Tarique is scheduled to attend a programme at Fulgazi Government Pilot School ground involving Family Cards and Farmer Cards, as well as honorariums for imams, muezzins and representatives of other faiths.
He is expected to return to Dhaka in the evening after completing the programmes.
