A leader of the Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal, student wing of the BNP, has been expelled from the organisation over the theft of milk allocated for students under the school feeding programme in Nesarabad, Pirojpur.
The organisation took action after several media outlets reported on Wednesday that 27 packets of milk had been returned following an alleged theft of 30 packets from No 148 South Binna Kailantari Government Primary School.
In a decision signed by Pirojpur district Chhatra Dal President Salauddin Talukdar Kumar and General Secretary Mahmud Hasan Shahin on Thursday night, Nadim Mahmud was expelled from all organisational posts of Chhatra Dal, including his primary membership.
The decision was disclosed in a press release signed by district Chhatra Dal Office Secretary Khalid Hasan on Friday (October 2).
Nadim was the joint general secretary of Swarupkathi Government College Chhatra Dal and office secretary of No 1 Baldia Union Chhatra Dal.
The press release instructed leaders and activists at all levels of Chhatra Dal not to maintain any organisational relations with the expelled leader.
Earlier, Nadim and several others were accused of taking 30 packets of milk allocated for students from the school library.
The incident allegedly took place on September 25, when teachers were busy hosting guests at the school on the occasion of a boat race in Binna Khal.
After the matter came to light, Nadim returned 27 packets of milk to the school authorities on Wednesday (September 30) after buying them. The remaining three packets were reportedly consumed.
Nadim said he and two friends had taken the 30 packets from the school but did not know that the milk had been allocated for children. After learning about it, they bought 27 packets and returned them to the school.
Meanwhile, the school’s headteacher, Md Nurul Islam, was served a show-cause notice over informing the education office about the incident several days after it occurred. He was asked to submit a written response within three working days.
Nesarabad Upazila Primary Education Officer Md Moinul Islam said the school authorities had not readily informed the education office about the incident.
