Govt to rein in Facebook, YouTube over harmful content: Chief Whip

Staff Correspondent

National Parliament Chief Whip Nurul Islam Moni on Friday said Facebook and YouTube have become major sources of harm for the country.

“You may or may not believe it, but this is certainly one of the major reasons,” he said while speaking as the chief guest at a shadow parliament debate competition organised at the Bangladesh Film Development Corporation (FDC).

The event, titled “A social movement is more effective than political will in preventing teenage gangs”, was chaired by Debate for Democracy Chairman Hasan Ahmed Chowdhury Kiran.

Moni said the government is working to address the issue and control the use of the popular social media platforms.

“We will try to rein them in and put a check on them,” he said.

“Hopefully, we will soon be able to create an environment where these teenagers are not exposed to such circumstances and do not learn anything harmful from them,” he added.
