Tarique Rahman fought relentlessly against fascism: Gayeshwar

BSS

BNP Standing Committee Member and lawmaker Gayeshwar Chandra Roy today said BNP Chairman and Prime Minister Tarique Rahman had fought relentlessly against fascism.

"Our party leader, late Begum Khaleda Zia, left after enduring persecution. And incumbent Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has fought relentlessly against fascism. BNP will not back down in the face of any threat," he said.

He made the remarks while addressing a reception for retired teachers and employees, an award ceremony for meritorious students and a cultural programme at Jinjira Pir Mohammad Pilot Girls' High School in Keraniganj.

Strongly criticizing the economic activities of the previous Awami League government, Gayeshwar said the government had left the country's economy disorganized and crippled.

"But even with the will, everything cannot be done overnight. Wants are unlimited, but capacity is limited. Keeping our limited capacity in mind, initiatives will be taken on a priority basis for economic recovery and nationalization of schools," he said.

Referring to the current political situation, Gayeshwar criticized the recent ultimatums and threats of street agitation issued by the National Citizen Party (NCP) and Jamaat-e-Islami.

Recalling the role of young NCP leaders in the July uprising, he said, "We salute the leaders who led the July-August movement. But it is unrealistic to demand the resignation of the government at every turn.”

He said people could not be misled through political surprises or false inducements.

Calling on all those who contributed to the fall of fascism to remain united, Gayeshwar said, "BNP alone cannot do everything. But if everyone remains united under the leadership of Prime Minister Tarique Rahman, it will be possible to defeat any force, no matter how powerful and build the desired Bangladesh."

Highlighting positive changes in education in the Jinjira area, he said, "People have now taken Jinjira to a higher level. The bad reputation it once had no longer exists. Real education, not cheating, is now practiced here."

Dhaka District BNP General Secretary and lawmaker Advocate Nipun Roy Chowdhury attended the programme as the special guest.

Crests were presented to meritorious students, retired teachers and employees of the school. Later, a cultural programme was staged.
