Student dies after her scarf gets caught in engine rickshaw wheel in Cox’s Bazar

A student tragically died after her scarf got caught in the wheel of a battery-powered e-rickshaw on Cox’s Bazar sea beach on Tuesday.

The accident occurred on the road in the Sugandha Point area at around 11:30am, according to officials.

The deceased was identified as Seema Akter, an Alim second-year student at Fatematuz Zahra Mahila Madrasa in Debidwar, Cumilla. She was visiting Cox’s Bazar with her relatives.

Mahbub Alam, a district administration employee assigned to the beach, said Seema’s scarf got caught in the e-rickshaw’s wheel while she was travelling in the vehicle.

“She was seriously injured and was later taken to Cox’s Bazar Sadar Hospital, where doctors declared her dead,” he said.

Sheikh Mohammad Ali, Officer-in-Charge of Cox’s Bazar Sadar Model Police Station, said the body had been kept at the morgue of Cox’s Bazar Sadar Hospital.

“The process of taking legal action is underway in consultation with the relatives,” he said.
