Jatiya Jubo Shakti, the youth wing of the National Citizen Party (NCP), has demanded the resignation of State Minister for Youth and Sports Aminul Haque and the formation of an independent and impartial inquiry committee over the question paper leak in the recruitment examination for assistant upazila youth development officers under the Department of Youth Development.
The organisation also demanded the arrest and punishment of those responsible and recruitment based on merit.
The five-point demand was announced at a demonstration organised by Jatiya Jubo Shakti in front of the Department of Youth Development’s headquarters in the capital on Sunday.
The organisation also called for an end to politicisation, nepotism and irregularities in recruitment, harassment in the name of verification, and manipulation of viva voce marks. It further demanded that the government publish a specific action plan to create jobs for unemployed youths and promote youth development.
Advocate Tarikul Islam, President of Jubo Shakti, said the government had failed to demonstrate any effective plan to create employment opportunities for young people. Instead of fulfilling its pledge to create one crore jobs, he alleged, the government was creating one crore extortionists.
He further said that although information about the question paper leak had surfaced on the night before the examination, the government had failed to take effective action before the test began, raising questions about the transparency of the recruitment process.
Demanding State Minister Aminul Haque’s resignation, Tarikul said allegations of irregularities and corruption in recruitment were emerging instead of efforts to ensure employment for young people.
The organisation’s General Secretary Engineer Farhad Sohel alleged that the BNP was trying to become like the Awami League in a short time. He also accused the government of attempting to politicise state institutions and render them ineffective.
Jatiya Jubo Shakti Organising Secretary Rifat Rashid said, “We suspect that there may have been a dispute over how the spoils were to be divided this time. That is why someone leaked the question paper. Otherwise, the incident might never have come to light.”
He said 319,000 candidates had applied for 242 posts, highlighting the severe crisis in the country's job market.
“Do not kick the youth in the stomach and play games with them. The youth are not your football that you can kick around while they sit silently and take the blows,” Rifat said.
