LPG traders call two-day nationwide shutdown on Oct 15-16

Staff Correspondent

The LPG Gas Traders Cooperative Association Ltd on Monday announced a two-day nationwide shutdown of all types of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) shops on October 15 and 16, demanding an end to the harassment of LPG traders.

Association President Selim Khan announced the strike at a press conference at the National Press Club.

At the press conference, Selim said traders are regularly facing harassment over the fixed prices of gas cylinders and their supply.

“We have decided to suspend sales across the country for two days to protest this harassment and the unfair situation,” he said.

He warned that the traders would announce tougher programmes if their legitimate demands are not met immediately.

On October 4, the Bangladesh Energy Regulatory Commission (BERC) raised LPG prices in the country.

Under the revised rates, the price of a 12kg cylinder was increased by 252 taka to 1,837 taka.
