Reflection of ‘AL’s terrorist politics’, says Nahid condemning heckling of Yunus

National Citizen Party (NCP) Convener Nahid Islam has strongly condemned the heckling of former interim government chief adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus by activists of the banned Awami League at John F Kennedy International Airport in New York, saying the incident reflects the party’s continued violent political culture.

“The attempt … has once again exposed the brutal, violent and inhumane nature of the Awami League’s terrorism-driven politics,” Nahid wrote in a Facebook post on Tuesday.

“Even two years after being decisively rejected by the people of this country, the character of the Awami League’s terrorist cadres has not changed in the slightest. Nor have they shown the slightest remorse for their past misdeeds,” he added.

Nahid said Yunus and other members of the interim government had taken responsibility at a critical juncture in the country’s history, leading efforts to restore democracy and rebuild an economy left in ruins.

“The government must take effective measures to ensure the security of all of them,” he wrote.
