Saudi Arabia has executed two Bangladeshi nationals in the Mecca region after they were convicted of committing an alleged immoral act inside a mosque, Ajel News reported.

The Saudi Ministry of Interior announced the executions on Wednesday, October 14, identifying the individuals as Nazerul Islam Abdul Basir and Siti Akhtar, both Bangladeshi citizens.

According to the ministry's statement, security authorities apprehended the two individuals following the incident and referred them for investigation. They were subsequently charged and tried by a competent court, which sentenced them to death under discretionary punishment, citing the seriousness of the offence and the violation of the sanctity of the mosque.

The ministry said the verdict was upheld by the relevant authorities before a royal order was issued for the sentences to be carried out.

The executions took place in the Mecca region on October 14, 2026, according to the statement.

The Ministry of Interior reaffirmed the Saudi government's commitment to maintaining public security, upholding justice and enforcing Islamic law. It also warned that anyone committing similar offences would face legal consequences.
