The manager of Tuptup Resto & Resort in Cox’s Bazar has been taken into police custody for questioning following a fire that killed at least 10 people on Saturday morning, while the resort’s owners remain missing.

The fire broke out at the resort in Patuartek, in the Inani Beach area of Ukhiya, on October 17.

The manager, Suman Islam, was taken to the police station for questioning, said Atikur Rahman Majumder, officer-in-charge of Ukhiya Police Station.

He said further details would be provided later.

The resort’s owners, Niaz Morshed and Tanvir, have reportedly been untraceable since the incident.

At least 10 people, including five women and a child, were killed in the fire, according to the Fire Service and Civil Defence. Several others were injured, while nine people were safely evacuated.

The cause of the fire remains unknown. Local residents alleged that the blaze originated from a stove in the resort’s kitchen.

The incident has raised questions about the resort’s fire safety measures and the circumstances that led to the deadly blaze.
