UNB

Detective Branch (DB) of police on Tuesday detained 85 individuals, including 26 women, from a house owned by Additional DIG Abdullah Al Zahirul, in the capital's Purbachal area, over alleged drug use and 'organization of a DJ party'.

The drive was conducted around 2:30am inside the Police Housing area of Purbachal, and continued till Tuesday afternoon, said DB Additional Commissioner Shafiqul Islam.

Five bottles of liquor and a large quantity of synthetic drugs were recovered during the operation, he said.

Additional DIG Abdullah Al Zahirul, had rented it out to the organisers of the parties.

According to DB sources, the organisers used to hold DJ parties at the house and advertise the events online to attract participants through a registration process.

People of different age groups, including young men and women, reportedly attended the parties, where drugs were allegedly arranged under the cover of DJ events.

The DMP has yet to provide further details about the operation or the legal action against those detained.

Meanwhile, Additional DIG Abdullah Al Zahirul (supernumerary), repair and maintenance branch of Police Headquarters, was withdrawn and attached to the Police Headquarters.

A notification, signed by IGP Ali Hossain Fakir on Tuesday, said the order will remain effective until further notice.
