The Bangladesh Standards and Testing Institution (BSTI) on Wednesday fined a bakery 1 lakh taka for producing and selling bakery items under unhygienic conditions without mandatory quality certification and packaging registration in the capital's South Badda.

A mobile court led by BSTI Executive Magistrate Md Mahbubul Islam, with assistance from the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP), conducted the drive at New B-Baria Bakery and Sweets, a bread, biscuit and cake manufacturing facility at Daroga Bari Mor in Badda.

During the inspection, the court found that the factory was operating without a valid Certification Marks (CM) licence or packaging registration, while manufacturing and distributing food products in unsanitary conditions.

The court imposed the fine under the BSTI Act and directed the bakery's owners to apply for a CM licence and packaging registration within seven working days. It warned that failure to comply would invite further legal action.

BSTI Field Officer Fardin Islam and Inspector (Metrology) Touhidul Islam served as prosecuting officers during the operation.

BSTI said similar enforcement drives would continue to ensure product quality, prevent unhygienic food production and enforce regulatory compliance in the public interest.
